A little bit about this venue
If “rustic romance” is your style, you’ll want to hear all about Avalen Farm. These barns were once part of the Lanhydrock Estate and have been lovingly transformed over a couple of years by the family — multiple generations pitched in to help. The result is a venue that’s full of authentic Cornish character, think original stone walls and exposed beams, yet with all the amenities you need to celebrate in comfort.
Avalen offers exclusive use for your wedding, meaning the whole place is yours and yours alone. The barns form a pretty little courtyard, which I’ve seen used for lawn games, fire pits, or even a food-truck late-night snack. Inside, the main barn is warm and inviting, perfect for an intimate ceremony or a cosy dinner. They’re licensed for civil ceremonies, or you could have a blessing or celebrant-led ceremony in the courtyard and then just do your reception here.

Why I love it
What really steals my heart about Avalen is the scenery and the sentimentality. Rolling hills, wild hedgerows, and not a road in sight — it’s wonderfully secluded and peaceful. You truly feel like you’ve discovered a secret countryside hideaway.
And Avalen has a very special tradition: to honour each couple that marries there, they plant a tree in the ancient woodland on the farm, as a lasting memory. Fitting, since “Avalen” means “apple tree” in Cornish. Your wedding literally becomes part of the landscape. As a photographer, I also love that we can wander to the orchard or fields for golden-hour shots — the farm is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so every direction is gorgeous.
